Customise

Character mode

Customise Body, Eyes, Mouth, Nails, Lashes & Brows, Skin and Parts, and save looks to the Library.

Character mode is where you change how the character looks.

Open it

  • Choose View > Character (Cmd+2).
  • Or press Open in Character from the Look summary in Modify.

The left list has seven features. Select one and the viewport frames it. Frame and Full body move the camera. The right panel shows a gallery of presets, the feature’s controls and Save look.

Features

Body

Each section header has Randomise, Reset and Lock. Randomise advances a seed, so you can repeat a result.

Skin

Pick a skin type first.

Type Look
Realistic Physically based, with tone, detail, age and marks. Presets: Natural, Fresh, Freckled, Sun-kissed, Rugged, Weathered, Elder
Stylised Painted ramp. Presets: Painted, Warm clay, Pastel, Storybook, Moody
Toon Cel bands with outline. Presets: Cel, Anime, Soft anime, Comic, Flat
Creature Scales, plates, stone, hide, fur. Presets: Lizard, Chitin, Stone, Ember, Troll hide, Short fur
Hard surface Panels, plates, carbon, brushed. Presets: Steel, Android, Gunmetal, Carbon, Neon, Brushed

Skin is a stack of layers. Each layer has visibility, solo, order, opacity, blend and a mask. Use Add layer to open the tile grid. Tattoos are layers of the Tattoo kind. Paint and stamp layers are placed on the mesh in the viewport with the Paint tool (B).

Switching skin type keeps your layer stack.

Parts

  1. Press Add part (from the Library or by kind) or Import part (OBJ, FBX or GLB).
  2. Use Place on the skin to position it with the gizmo.
  3. Adjust controls such as Length, Taper, Curve, Curl and Thickness.
  4. Press Save to Library to reuse it.

Save a look

Save look saves the feature to the Library. The look sections are also available under Tools > Character Look.

Export notes

Realistic, Creature and Hard surface skin are fully in the exported maps. Stylised writes the painted look into the colour map. Toon writes the flat colour and face marks only. The cel shading is described in the export manifest for a toon shader. See Other formats and Targets.
